Ronald Nardello, 45, of West Babylon
Ronald Nardello of West Babylon had a love for motorcycles. He was an experienced rider having been riding since the age of 17, and capturing wins in national races while he was still in his 20’s. Mr. Nardello hardly ever rode on the street because he felt it was too dangerous, said his wife Laura. On Sunday mornings, however, he would venture out on his bike for an early spin on quiet roads. He’d pick up bagels and the Sunday paper and return home. "Sunday was a family day," said his wife Laura. "He and his friend Mike Renick would head out together." Sunday, September 8 was an exception however. Mr. Nardello, who owns his own contracting company, Hammer Custom Builders, Inc., had to work that morning and forego his usual Sunday morning outing. That night Renick went to Nardello’s and the two men headed out for a ride on their motorcycles. Before he left, Mr. Nardello told his daughter, Natalie to tell her mom that he went for a quick ride and would be back in a half hour. He never returned. Mr. Nardello died in a motorcycle accident moments later. He was 45 years old. A memorial was placed on the site of the accident in which he died. One of his friends carved a cross and also constructed a ledge where candles, flowers, a little motorcycle and a bottle of Corona were placed there. According to Laura, Ronald was always punctual, so when he was not home a half-hour later, she knew something was wrong. "It’s like I felt him leave me," Laura said. She started making phone calls to the neighbors and local hospitals. One of Ronald’s friends, Peter Adams, started driving to the hospitals. It was not until 10:45 that evening that a detective came to her house to tell Laura that Ronald was struck by a woman driving an SUV and that he died as a result of the accident. "Ron was a really great father. He taught the kids a lot of good values," said his wife. "As a husband, he was extremely giving and very understanding. He always put others before himself." Mr. Nardello spent a lot of this past year fishing, crabbing and camping. He was teaching his son, 12- year old Nicholas, the carpentry business and spending a lot of quality time with his children, said his wife. According to Laura, Ronald was an old-school craftsman who loved the business. He was featured in Fine Home Building magazine, as well as Architectural Digest. Mr. Nardello reposed at the Claude R. Boyd Spencer Funeral Home, 448 West Main St. Babylon. A small service was held at his home September 12th and his wife read a poem. The service was conducted by Fr. MacNarmara of Our Lady of Grace church in West Babylon. A private cremation service was held Friday, September 13, and his ashes were sprinkled on his parent’s grave, as well as in the water where his took his kids crabbing and fishing.
