Her experience covers the gamut of securities regulation, and she was named the Financial Women’s Association Public Sector Woman of the Year in May 2000. Mary and her husband Chas Cadwell live in Washington, DC with their daughters Molly and Anna. A LOSS FOR OUR VILLAGE. We lost another member of the "greatest generation" with the passing last week of long-time Village resident Tom Hanaway. Tom loved the Village and cared very deeply about its history. Back in the 70’s then Mayor Gil Hanse appointed Tom as Village Historian, and Tom approached the position with tremendous dedication. We remember his hard work photographing the older Village homes and getting background information on their owners over the years, builders, architects, etc.The Beacon was able to bring this interesting information to our readers in a series of excellent articles by Tom entitled, "This Old House." Thank you to a real gentleman. THREE GENERATIONS OF CROMARTY WOMEN participated in a 3.1 mile walk for the benefit of abused women starting at Battery Park in New York City last Sunday. Ellen Cromarty, her daughter Alice and granddaughter Christy all marched together as part of the New York City Jr. League contingent. Alice’s daughter Emily was in charge of the wellness centers along the parade route. Ellen lives in Lindenhurst with her husband the Honorable Arthur Cromarty, and we salute the Cromartys’ for a job very well done! A VERY SPECIAL BIRTHDAY WISH FOR A VERY SPECIAL LADY. Yes, Connie Hoernel celebrated a really big one on September 30th, and we want to join all of her family and friends to say "Happy Birthday Con" and many, many more. CABLEVISION DOESN’T CARRY THE LOUIS VUITTON CUP NEWS, we asked Suzanne Steinberg for the latest — Suzanne’s son, Matthew Welling is a crew member on Larry Ellison’s team aboard the "Stars & Stripes" and they’ve won the first three races of the series. Matthew, his wife Betsey and their infant son Joseph John live in Auckland, New Zealand and these days little Joseph John and the twelve other babies of the crew members are all wearing little red, white, and blue knit hats when they see their daddy’s off to race, thanks to Suzanne and her friends labor of love in the knitting department. REMEMBER WHEN? Women did not wear pants in public? Well, way back in the 30’s two prominent Village women did wear slacks shopping and walking in the Village. Can any of our readers tell us who they were? Answer in our next column.
