Heard It On The Grapevine WE HAVE A NEW PRESIDENT Last week we gave you the news that "Busy Women's President Elizabeth Karoly, who has done such a masterful job, will be stepping down and Vice President Claire Meirowitz will be taking over the helm next fall. Claire has lived here in Babylon Village for 15 years, having moved here from Massapequa Park. She is a graduate of Hofstra University and served as director of community relations at S.U.N.Y Old Westbury. At present she is a volunteer with the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition. "It's a great honor to be chosen president since I am not a Babylon Village native. I expect to work very closely with the Board on plans for the upcoming year," Claire told the Beacon. BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREETINGS to one of our favorite Restauranteur Uwe Paulsen, and since it was his birthday last week, it was his turn to pick up the check at the "Sewer Society" breakfast meeting at the Delphi Diner. Uwe looks just as handsome as ever. Most of us remember him from his days at La Grange when he did such a fab job as manager and owner of one of the best restaurants on Long Island. THERE'S GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS ABOUT THE HOUSING MARKET IN BABYLON VILLAGE. Talked to one of my favorite realtors in town, Michelle, who is also a lovely waitress in "Parkwood." Michelle said that she sold three houses last weekend, but all three sold at a price $100,000 less than the same house would have sold for a year ago. MORE ON THE NEW DRUG STORE THAT WE TOLD YOU ABOUT LAST WEEK. It will be located across from Gemelli's on Main Street behind West Marine. We're all looking forward to it mainly because of the delivery service which will be a real benefit for so many of our seniors and disabled residents. We'll give you the grand opening date real soon. INTERESTED IN A SUMMER JOB WORKING FOR THE VILLAGE? If the answer is "yes," there are openings in the Highway and Recreation Departments, and applications are available in the Mayor's office. CALLING ALL GOLFERS AND SWIMMERS. The Village Golf Course is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. seven days a week. Popular golf pro Joe Molloy will again be in charge. There are a number of programs available for adult and teenage groups, and leagues are being formed. Call 631-669-2340 for information. The Village pool will open on June 21 and 22 and will close until June 28 when it will open permanently. CALIFORNIA VISITORS. The Greg Naya family, Robin, Greg, Nick and Louly of California are enjoying a visit here a the home of Robin's parents, Fran and Bob Pasch while Nick checks out college in the area. AND A NEW PASCH BABY TO TELL YOU ABOUT. Miranda and James Grant announced the arrival of their first child, a daughter, Hastings Louise Grant on March 30 in Singapore. The baby's grandparents are Denise and Peter Pasch of Washington and her great grandparents are Fran and Bob Pasch of Babylon Village. James Grant is a geologist who works for oil companies overseas. WAS SORRY TO HEAR that former long-term Babylon resident Martha Steadman passed away last week in a nursing home in New England. Martha and her late husband Lou, a well-known and very well respected artist, lived here in the Blue Harbor area for a number of years. Martha was a law secretary to the late Richard S. Byrns. A memorial service is planned for this summer.
AND IN BABYLON VILLAGE, EVEN THE DOGS GET SPECIAL TREATMENT. Yes, we hear on the grapevine that a dog boutique will be opening in the area soon. Stay tuned.
