Heard It On The Grapevine We'll start with Mary Freund (the best dancer in town). Mary celebrated with her sister Betty Breslin of Smithtown and her sister-in-law Rose Conneally of Deer Park. The gals enjoyed a delicious luncheon at the Post Office Cafe in Babylon Village. Many happy returns to three great ladies. THIS ARTIST WAS BORN ON THE FIRST MOTHER'S DAY TO BE CELEBRATED IN THIS COUNTRY Yes, Ginny Eckelberry, our resident artist, was born on May 11th, the first official Mother's Day. She celebrated her 94th birthday and she really celebrated. The parties started last week in her home for close friends enjoying her gourmet cooking; then she was feted at a luncheon at the home of fellow artists, the John Olsons of East Northport with guests John Byrns, Dermott McGrath and Mary Ellen Sullivan. The last party was at Mushrooms with her close friend, Andrea Foote. AND ONE OF THE LARGEST EVENTS IN THE VILLAGE IS COMING UP ON THURSDAY, JUNE 5TH The Mayor E. Donald Conroy Scholarship cocktail party will be held at the Venetian Yacht Club in Babylon Village from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. You'll enjoy music, cocktails and buffet dinner. There will also be a number of fabulous raffle prizes. This is the 6th annual party chaired by Don's very close friend, Bert Pedersen - the goal of the party is to identify one high school senior, who by his or her actions has demonstrated their service to the community as exemplified by Don Conroy. The cost of admission of $40 per person and raffle tickets are $10 per ticket, a very reasonable price, considering the prizes that will be awarded and the delicious food and music. So come and make merry for an excellent cause. ANOTHER TOP ACHIEVER FROM BABYLON HIGH SCHOOL Babylon Village Trustee Alice Vanderveldt received her Master's Degree in Special Education at Dowling College on Tuesday evening. Following the ceremonies, a reception was held at Captain Bill's. Alice has accepted a teaching position at the Connetquot School System. Right on Alice - we wish you the best of everything. THE SNOWBIRDS ARE COMING HOME . . . This week Tina and Jim Grange made the trek back from their Florida home in St. Petersburg to their Babylon Village home right near their children Nancy and Steven Warren and their children, Steven and Michelle. CALLING ALL OLD TIME SAILORS Bert Pedersen, an old time sailor too, is looking for help and information on the Marie II, which goes back to 1910. If you have any info. write to Bert at the Beacon, 65 Deer Park Ave., Babylon NY 11702. AND SPEAKING OF BERT He and his family have just returned from a fabulous trip where they sailed for a week in the British Virgin Islands; then they traveled to the Greek Islands where they sailed and studied the ancient wonders of the area. Everyone had a terrific time where they had fun and learned a great deal about that historical area of our world. MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW!
