Margaret Ryerson, former Babylon School secretary

Former Babylon resident Margaret Carr Ryerson, who worked at the principal's secretary at Babylon High School for many years, died May 5, 2008 at her home in Augusta, Georgia. She was 81.

According to her family, Mrs. Ryerson was an avid reader, sports buff, wonderful storyteller and generous spirit.

She was born to Keller Yonge Carr and Frances Gibson Carr and raised on Yonges Island and Charleston, South Carolina. After marrying Rogers Pelham Ryerson of Rhode Island they moved to Charleston, South Carolina, Middletown, Rhode Island, Boston, Massachusetts, Pontiac, Michigan and Babylon, New York.

For more than 20 years she worked as a secretary at the Babylon Jr. Sr. High School before she retired to Santee, South Carolina. In 1995 they moved to Augusta, Georgia.

She leaves behind her son, Bruce of Middletown, Rhode Island; her grandsons: Jack Cohoon of West Columbia, South Carolina and Casey Cohoon of Augusta, Georgia; her son in law: Steve Cohoon of Blackville, South Carolina; and other family members and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Rogers; her sisters: Jeanne Carr Watson and Charlotte Carr Swain; and her daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Ryerson Cohoon.

She reposed at the Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Home in Augusta, Georgia on May 10, 2008. Private cremation followed.
