Babylon Elementary kicks off PARP Program
Throughout the program, speaking with the students in small groups, Mc- Clintock spoke with the students about how she started drawing at a young age and knew from the start she wanted to pursue a career in writing and the arts. "When I was about seven I knew I was going to be an artist," stated Mc- Clintock. "It was my sister that helped guide me to the path of illustration and encouraged me to be a children's book illustrator." The students were amazed to watch as Ms. McClintock transformed a simple piece of white drawing paper into a work of art, creating comic strips, pictures depicting her regular life, and even recreating some of her favorite cartoon characters. Additionally, Mc- Clintock gave the students a sneak peak at a proof of her upcoming book and let them take an up-close look at the tools she uses to create some of their favorite characters. Even after writing and illustrating more than 30 books, McClintock stressed the notion of needing to revise and improve upon her writing and drawings constantly. "Writing is something that gets better as you continue to work on it," McClintock stated. "I am continuously reworking my story ideas, paragraphs, and illustrations."
Shown in the photo, Babylon Elementary School students recently received a special visit from children's book author and illustrator Barbara McClintock as a kickoff to the school's Parents As Reading Partners (PARP) program.
