PeaceSmiths to hold "Making Music Together" On Friday, June 6 at 8 p.m., the PeaceSmiths Monthly, Topical, A-Typical, Folk Music, Poetry and Whatever Coffeehouse will hold its last coffeehouse of the season, with a drum circle to cap off the evening. The Coffeehouse is held at the First United Methodist Church, 25 Broadway/Rt. 110 (southmost end near Merrick Road Montauk Highway) in Amityville. For decades, the PeaceSmiths coffeehouse has created a circle of art and activism within the Long Island peace and justice community. Among the list of performers is Lisa Fishbein, who graced the stage at least once a year with sing-a-longs and labor songs. Fishbein passed away in January. This month's coffeehouse is dedicated to her, and in the spirit of her work, will be called, Making Music Together: Dedicated to Lisa Fishbein. Andy Greenhouse, a New York City based singer/ songwriter, will open the evening with a short set. Lin Giliberti, whose work spans the range from jazz vocalist to guitar-playing singer/songwriter, will perform a song and poem in honor of Fishbein. George Mann will perform a full set. George Mann is one half of the group George and Julius, who perform labor music and anti-war songs. At the coffeehouse, Mann will lead a sing-a-long in the tradition of Fishbein After the intermission, participants will be invited to join a drum circle. They can bring a drum, or borrow one . The circle will be led by Robert Langley. He is a much sought-after percussionist, performing in several local groups, including Blacklisted and the Banned and Tornado Alley.
A donation of $7 (half for kids) is suggested to help promote the Coffeehouse series and PeaceSmiths' ongoing work for peace and justice. The Coffeehouse is held the first Friday of the month from October to June.
