 Last month, the Town of Babylon celebrated Earth Day with special events, displays and educational programs. In photo. Marlene Bombara of Amity Harbor, an outreach coordinator, completes the display exhibiting the Asian longhorned beetles. The display by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health inspection Services, drew many visitors who share the government’s concern for the destruction of trees associate with beetle infestation.

Babylonians out for Earth Day celebration

Angela Ruis, 13 of Long Beach and Brittani Stewart, 15, of Wheatley Heights, attempts to tally discarded sneakers and load them into collection barrels. Brittiani holds the clip board. More than 250 pairs of sneakers were collected for recycling.

Girl Scouts from Troop 1110 of North Babylon made interesting and colorful posters filled with information about the environment for the event.
