Police seek public's help in solving hit and run accident

Suffolk County First Squad Detectives and Crime Stoppers are trying to solve a hit and run accident that occurred in Lindenhurst and left a young woman seriously injured. They are asking the public for assistance in solving this crime and gave this account:

On April 5, at approximately 2:40 p.m., Allison Ciancarelli, 33, of Lindenhurst, was riding her bicycle and attempted to cross Montauk Highway at the intersection of E. Shore Road, Lindenhurst. She was struck by a vehicle operated by an unidentified driver who was making a left turn to westbound Montauk Highway. The driver fled the scene. The driver is described as a white female with shoulder length blond or reddish blond hair.

Ciancarelli was transported to the hospital via helicopter with multiple broken bones, lacerations and bruises. She is currently home, but is expected to undergo multiple surgeries.

Local surveillance video and witnesses believe the suspect's vehicle to be a silver, 4-door sedan Hyundai Elantra or Accent. Local autobody repair shops should be especially aware of a vehicle matching this description. The damage may be minor due to the low speed of the impact, and may be on the front bumper, windshield or hood.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential and the caller will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5000.00 for information that leads to an arrest.
