Police arrest two WIHS students for writing bomb threat

Two West Islip High School students have been arrested by Suffolk Police and charged with writing a note May 21, threatening that there would be an explosion at the high school.

Stephen Valenti, and Nicholas Lehnert, both 16, were charged in that incident following an investigation. Both are 11th graders at the school.

The threatening note was found at West Islip High School and indicated that there would be an explosion at the school at 11:45 a.m.

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Beth Blau, said that the district worked closely with police and the student body throughout the investigation. Police eventually received information from other students that led to the arrests.

The two are charged with falsely reporting an incident, first degree. They will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.

In addition, the two will be brought before a Superintendent's Hearing and face disciplinary action from the school district.
