John Kudla, Vietnam veteran, at 63

Longtime West Islip resident and metal worker John W. Kudla died March 19, 2008. He was 63 years old and had lived in West Islip for 38 years.

He was born December 24, 1944 to the late John and Helen in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn and was a decorated U.S. Army First Infantry soldier who fought in Vietnam. For 35 years, he worked in the Sheet Metal Union Local 28 in New York City and was a member of the VFW in West Islip.

Mr. Kudla leaves behind his wife of almost 40 years, Grace; his children: Tara and John; his grandson Noah who lovingly called him "Grumps;" his sisters: Nancy and Linda; many other relatives; and many friends.

He reposed at the Fredrick J. Chapey Funeral Home in West Islip on March 24 and 25, 2008. A Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial was said at St. Joseph's R.C. Church on March 26, 2008. Private cremation followed.
