Allstate helps Deer Park High School provide pre-prom safety advice

Shown in the photo, the Deer Park community gathered with, left to right, Suffolk County First Precinct Officer Jeanne Osias, Allstate Exclusive Agent Douglas Butler, Suffolk County Legislator Steven H. Stern, Allstate Agency Owner Darin Reed, Deer Park High School Principal Nanine Cuttitta, and High School Assistant Principal Mary Reynolds for an informative pre-prom assembly.
Deer Park High School was the first school on Long Island to host a proactive pre-prom assembly program for all members of the senior class, their dates and their parent(s)/guardian(s), using a grant provided by Allstate Insurance. The school's chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and student government representatives created information stations in the school's main lobby with distributed handouts, flyers, and safe "contracts" pledging responsible prom behavior that students and parents signed.

During the assembly, Suffolk County First Precinct Officer Jeanne Osias spoke to the group about County laws regarding underage drinking, zero-tolerance drinking and driving, and repercussions, penalties and the possible prosecution associated with such actions. Additionally, Suffolk County Legislator Steven H. Stern was on hand to address the proposed inception of the Social Host Law for Suffolk County. Parents in attendance viewed Allstate's powerful video The 100 Deadliest Days, while in the company of their children buying prom tickets.

Deer Park accepted a grant from Allstate and will use the funds to enhance and expand upon the district's effective health and safety campaign. Annual programs, such as STOP-DWI, will continue to enlighten students on the reality of drinking and driving legal ramifications, and new messages from local and national officials are in the works for the 2008-2009 school year.
