Watson becomes certified nursery professional

West Babylon resident Charles Peter Watson successfully completed the New York State Nursery/ Landscape Association's Certified Professional Exam, thereby attaining the title of Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional. Watson has been employed at Hicks Nurseries for over three years.

In addition to his interest in horticulture (he attended Farmingdale College,) Watson is a musician and writer. His poetry was named "Editor's Choice" by the National Library of Poetry. He is a lifelong resident of West Babylon.

To become a CNLP, candidates (who are employees in the horticulture industry) must pass a rigorous exam that includes 75 questions pertaining to a wide range of subjects including plant pests and diseases, weeds and weed control, soils fertilizer, pruning and more. Plus they must be able to identify 25 shrubs and herbaceous garden and landscape plants, using both their scientific and common names.
