Longtime West Islip resident John Meditz

Loving family patriarch and 55-year West Islip resident John G. Meditz died on May 25, 2008 after a brief illness. He was 93.

In 1953 Mr. Meditz moved with his family from Ridgewood, Queens to West Islip. Before his retirement, he worked as the manger of a now-defunct office supply firm in lower Manhattan.

"He was a great father, grandfather and uncle who'll be sorely missed," said his son Robert who added that his dad was a gifted woodworker, who made outdoor furniture, and was an avid gardener.

In addition to his son, Mr. Meditz also leaves behind his wife of 72 years, Elizabeth; his daughter: Joan Martin; his grandchildren: John, David and Glen; and his great grandchildren: Kaylee and Zachary.

He reposed at the Fredrick J. Chapey Funeral Home in West Islip. Religious services were held at the funeral home on May 28, 2008. A Funeral Service was held at the funeral home on May 29, 2008. Interment followed at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.
