Suffolk Police make arrests in DP and WI for illegal sale of fireworks

Suffolk Police cracked down on the illegal sale of fireworks this week.

Third Precinct Police  arrested three men Tues., July 1and seized fireworks with a street value of approximately $5,000 from a shed behind a West Islip home..Acting on an anonymous tip, Suffolk County Police Third Precinct Crime Control officers made the arrests and seized the fireworks from a shed behind the home at 1291 Minerva Ave., West Islip at 8:15 p.m.
 
Charged with Unlawfully Dealing with Fireworks was the owner of the residence, Richard W. Gallagher, 69, Patrick Romagnano, Jr., 42, also of 1291 Minerva Ave., West Islip and Dennis Moran, 36, of 107 Southaven Ave., Medford.  All three were issued Field Appearance Tickets and will be arraigned in First District Court on August 20.
 
The arrests and seizure were part of an ongoing effort to curb the sale and use of illegal fireworks in the Third Precinct.

First Precinct Police arrested four people today and seized fireworks with a street value of more than $15,000.

Acting on an anonymous tip about illegal fireworks, First Precinct Crime Section officers stopped two vehicles leaving 8 Glenda Drive in Deer Park last night. Michael Vecere, 31, of 240 Half Hollow Road, Deer Park, and Leonard Ovaitte Jr., 48, of 20 East 8th Street, Deer Park, were charged with Unlawfully Dealing with Fireworks after police found fireworks with a street value of approximately $500 in their vehicles.

 Crime Section officers then executed a search warrant at 8 Glenda Drive and arrested the homeowner and his son. Joseph Ladonna Sr., 69, and Joseph Ladonna Jr., 40, were charged with Unlawfully Dealing with Fireworks.

 All four were issued Field Appearance Tickets and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on August 20.
