DP Falcons to perform in D.C. Parade July 4th
The Deer Park High School (DPHS) Marching Falcons will be elevated to a National stage when they take to the streets of Washington D.C. on July 4 to represent New York State in the National Independence Day Parade. S. C. Leg. Lou D’Amaro (D-North Babylon), a 1979 graduate of DPHS, returned to his alma mater to present a Proclamation honoring the students and their band director, district teacher Tammy Cotrone, on this prestigious selection.
Only 25 bands from across the country were invited to participate in the annual march down historic Constitution Avenue before nearly 500,000 spectators. After their participation in the parade, the Falcons will attend a special celebration on the Capitol Lawn, enjoy VIP viewing of the Grand Finale Fireworks Display, and tour the historic sites, monuments and museums in and around Washington D.C. The band raised all of the money for the trip through donations and fundraising.
“The Marching Falcons have worked tirelessly to fundraise, put in countless hours of practice and are extremely deserving of this National honor,” said D’Amaro. “They are outstanding representatives of the Deer Park community and make us all proud.”
