Babylon 11 year old team completes successful District 34 Tournament

Liam Young picked up the win with 2 innings of no hit ball in relief. The next game was a key game against Half Hallow Hills. Babylon needed the game to secure a spot to play for the silver medal. Spencer Meyerson took the mound and pitched his best game of the year; a complete game 2 hit shutout. He struck out 10 batters over the last 5 innings for the win. Babylon scored
The Babylon 11 year old team finished with an overall record of 7-5 in the recent District 34 Tournament. In the 3 preliminary games of the tournament, the team opened up with a 14-0 win over Commack North White. Chris Dewey had 3 hits and 4 RBI's to lead the offense. Spencer Meyerson pitched a complete game shutout and Drew Helling ended the game with a fine running catch in the outfield. The team lost their next 2 games against 2 of the best teams in the entire tournament. Despite the losses there were excellent performances. Nick Crawford had 7 assists from third base againt Northport and Pete Donaldson had a strong game pitching in relief against Deer Park. The team was then placed in the BB pool in position for another run at the silver medal.

In the next 8 game section of the tournament the team finished with a 6-2 record despite losing their first 2 games to North Babylon and Lindy American. Henry Brunjes had 2 long hits against North Babylon. After those losses the team went on to win 6 games in a row. The winning streak started with a 5-0 win over Larkfield National. Spencer Howard had 3 assists and 2 put outs in the field and Kevin Blau pitched a complete game shutout to get the team back on track. The next game was a 4-3 in over Commack Black. It was a 3-3 game in the 6th inning. With 2 outs Henry Brunjes singled and stole 2nd base. Spencer Howard then drove him in with a clutch 2 out hit to right field.

8 runs on offense. Jack Faccibene led the offense with a key double early in the game. Jack was among the team leaders in every category and played great defense at catcher the entire year. Spencer Meyerson and Pete Donaldson scored 2 runs each in the game. Pete led the team in walks and stolen bases for the tournament. The offense exploded for 20 runs in the next game against North Babylon White. Liam

Young had 2 doubles, a triple and 3 RBI's in the game. He also pitched 4 innings of no hit baseball in relief. Liam was incredible in leading the team in batting average for the tournament. Ryan Mathews had 2 hits including a line drive double to the fence. Henry Brunjes continued his hot hitting with 3 hits and 4 RBI's. This was Henry's first year of tournament baseball and he improved each and every game, inching his way up the batting order. Drew Helling also had a fine game at bat and in the field. It was also Drew's first year playing summer baseball and he improved tremendously over the year and was always leading cheers from the dugout. Nick Crawford had 2 hits for Babylon in the game. The winning streak continued with an 11-7 win over Commack North White. Kevin Blau and Ryan Mathews each had 2 hits to lead the offense. Spencer Meyerson got the win pitching 2 innings with 6 strike outs. The last game of the block was a 12-0 win over West Babylon. Spencer Howard pitched the shutout as every player on the team scored at least 1 run. The team then went on to the Medal round and faced a very strong Commack South team. The game was close, a 3-1 game heading into the 5th inning, but Commack broke open the game late to end Babylon's Tournament.

Some highlights overall: On offense, Liam Young lead the team in average. Liam switched bats mid season and it really helped. Liam, Chris Dewey, Jack Faccibene and Spencer Meyerson were the team leaders in RBI's. Meyerson only struck out 1 time in 37 plate appearances. Nick Crawford and Spencer Meyerson lead the team with 11 assists in the field. Ryan Mathews had 23 put outs to lead the team in that category. Chris Dewey and Joey Savastano were outstanding on defense with only 1 error all tournament. Joey did an outstanding job all tournament in the leadoff position of the batting order, always getting on base and starting rallies. Spencer Meyerson lead the pitching staff with 3 wins. He also struck out 37 batters while only walking 6 in 26 innings. Liam Young had 2 wins and was very clutch the entire tournament. Spencer Howard and Kevin Blau both pitched very well. Howard had an ERA of .096 for the tournament.

Manager Ricky Young and Coaches Gordon Blau, Marc Howard and Rich Meyerson thanked the boys for a great tournament. The team worked tremendously hard over the summer at practice and the games. They also thanked the parents for making the strong commitment that summer ball requires.
